The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation closes the 2014-2015 FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS series with Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, choir director and multi- instrumentalist, TYE TRIBBETT. Heralded as the “Elvis of Gospel,” Tribbett’s infectious energy and unique sound will captivate audiences of all ages as he performs his hits, including songs from his latest album Greater Than in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall on April 19, 2015.
The 2014-2015 FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS series is made possible with the support of Knight Foundation, Beverly and Bill Parker, the Friends of Free Gospel Sundays, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
“We’re proud to end our eighth consecutive season of FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS on a high note with an uplifting and joyous concert presenting gospel powerhouse TYE TRIBBETT,” said John Richard, president and CEO of the Arsht Center. “Our 2014-2015 season featured an impressive lineup including seven-time Stellar Gospel Music Award-winner Tamela Mann, music prodigy Damien Sneed and the explosive Rance Allen Group, and it was incredible to experience these memorable concerts with our loyal South Florida gospel fans.”
Hailing from New Jersey, TYE TRIBBETT founded the gospel group Tribbett & G.A., also known as Greater Anointing, in the 1990s. Tribbett & G.A.’s first recording, “Let Go, Let God” for the 1998 soundtrack to the DreamWorks animated film, The Prince of Egypt, catapulted Tribbett into the music industry. His powerful and energetic style garnered the attention of multi-Grammy producers and artists, including country superstar Faith Hill who asked the group to join her on tour in 2000. After four hit records with G.A., Tribbett decided to pursue a solo career and began collaborating with artists as diverse as Will Smith, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson and Stevie Wonder. In 2013, Tribbett released his fifth album, Greater Than, which debuted at no. 1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Chart and no. 9 on Billboard’s Top 200.
TYE TRIBETT’s dynamic caliber of music has earned him four Stellar awards, two Grammy Awards and one GMA Dove Award. With one of the most relevant voices of this generation, Tribbett’s unique sound continues to reach the hearts of young as well as the old.
FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS will also feature performances by the Arsht Center’s resident ensemble MIAMI MASS CHOIR. Under the direction of Pastor Marc Cooper, the MIAMI MASS CHOIR consists of 60 of Miami’s best gospel voices, selected through an open audition process, and representing South Florida from Lauderhill to Florida City.
