Kimbell Art Museum Announces Exciting Lineup of Free Community Events in July

The Kimbell Art Museum is gearing up to offer an exciting series of community events throughout the month of July. From honoring military families to celebrating Maya art and culture, these events promise engaging activities, demonstrations, performances, and even free ice cream. The museum invites visitors of all ages to join in the festivities and explore the world of art.

Blue Star Family Sunday, taking place on July 2 from noon to 5 pm at the Piano Pavilion, is a special event dedicated to honoring active-duty military, veterans, and their families. They will enjoy complimentary admission to the exhibition “Lives of the Gods: Divinity in Maya Art.” In addition to gallery tours, attendees can participate in story times and a screen-printing activity led by guest artist and veteran Jessica Bond.

On July 8, the museum presents “Lives of the Gods: Second Saturdays” at the Piano Pavilion from 2 to 3 pm. This event offers visitors the opportunity to witness the remarkable techniques of contemporary Maya weaver Concepción Poou Coy Tharin. Tharin, featured in “Sheer Elegance: Surviving Strands of Ancient Maya Weaving” and Selvedge Magazine, will demonstrate her weaving skills, incorporating methods employed by ancient Maya artists as showcased in the exhibition.

Mark your calendars for July 16, when the Kimbell hosts the Family Festival/Fiesta de la Familia at the Piano Pavilion from noon to 5 pm. This festive art party coincides with National Ice Cream Sunday, promising a delightful summer celebration. Guests of all backgrounds are welcome to indulge in free art-making activities, gallery explorations, face painting, and captivating dance performances by Grupo Pakal and Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth. Complimentary ice cream will also be available to beat the summer heat while supplies last. The special exhibition “Lives of the Gods: Divinity in Maya Art” can be enjoyed free of charge during the event. The Kimbell extends its appreciation to the Nuestro Kimbell committee for their support in making these community programs possible.

The Kimbell Art Museum gratefully acknowledges the support it receives from Arts Fort Worth, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Promotional support for the events is provided by American Airlines, NBC5, and PaperCity.
