Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts presents the Rex Nettleford Arts Arts Conference: Catalyst for Caribbean Development October 13 and 14 , 2011. This years conference will also feature the Most Honourable Edward Phillip George Seaga and Professor Brenda Dixon Gottschild. The purpose of the conference is to create a platform for discourse with practitioners, writers, researchers and arts educators. The conference further seeks to create interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of the arts in economic development, generate discourse around the arts being a viable medium for wealth creation and to create a space for critical exchange of ideas that make the connection with the Arts to society.
The conference aims to provide a framework for educators and practitioners located in the context of Arts development, festivals, expositions, production of the Arts and its global reach.
The 2011 conference, aims at initiating discourse between artistes, Art educators, academics and researchers, exhibition participants and organizers, Arts writers and critics, Arts policymakers and advocates, Arts administrators, curators, cultural workers, media specialists, students and faculty in all arts related fields and other business stakeholders. It will bring together an international, interdisciplinary audience in order to share knowledge and experience; share research findings on issues related to practitioners and education in dance, drama, visual arts, music and other art forms. Thus strengthening the network of researchers and encouraging research in the fields of the visual and performing arts and in other important areas in the Arts. early regisstration lasts through May.
