National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC), the Harlem-based media arts organization, is presenting a screening and panel discussion of a Web series examining Black mixed identity in the 21st century through the lens of the history of racial classification in the United States November 19 at 6:30 PM. Evoking the Mulatto, by Black Public Media Digital Arts Fellow Lindsay C. Harris, premiered on October 29 with weekly episodes. It concludes on Thursday with a screening of all four episodes and a panel discussion, which will be livestreamed on NBPC’s YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/user/NBPC, and website, www.blackpublicmedia.org, where the series can be seen. NBPC is a nonprofit organization dedicated solely to media content about the Black experience.
Evoking the Mulatto is a transmedia, interactive video art project, consisting of video interviews, photographic portraits, animation, and historical mappings that hopes to navigate race within and beyond a Black-White binary, while inspiring a broader discussion on humanity, the right to one’s own body and the right to one’s own identity.
