Sugarcane Magazine celebrate’s Women’s History Month with our first Free Film Friday. Today’s film is “Daughter’s of the Dust” by celebrated director Julie Dash. This film explores Gullah culture on St. Helena Island South Carolina through the live of 3 generations of women preparing to move north. This film was a winner at the Sundance Film Festival, was celebrated by critics and audiences for it’s rich narrative and visual style and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
