The Miami Urban Contemporary Experience (MUCE) invites visual artists to submit their work for an upcoming exhibition: As a matter of Black, taking place in Jazz in The Gardens March 19th-20th 2016 at the Sun Life Stadium 347 Don Shula Dr, Miami Gardens, FL 33056. Work will be on exhibit for more than 70, 000 attendees.
What is the Matter of Black? Is it life? Is it a lifestyle? Is it the vast nothingness of space? What does black mean to you as an artist. This festival attracts a significant African-American, Caribbean and Latin population. What would the matter of Black be for the community? Contemporary Artist should answer this question visually. Western society has created a narrative and meaning for “Blackness”. The goal here is to rewrite the narrative; reminding onlookers that, “when you are writing the story of our life- don’t let anyone else hold the pen.”
