The Richard Beavers Gallery Soho, has unveiled a celebration of Black artistry. Titled “In Plain Sight,” this joint exhibit showcases an array of artists, each wielding their distinctive brushstrokes, lenses, and craftsmanship to shed light on the lived experiences and overlooked narratives of the Black community.
This compelling exhibition, running from through October 14, 2023, at the gallery’s 14 Wooster Street location, beckons art enthusiasts and social observers alike.
“In Plain Sight” serves as a poignant testament to the power of artistic expression as a vehicle for storytelling. Featuring the works of renowned artists Brittsense, Lynthia Edwards, Frank Morrison, DaaPo Reo, Justin Robinson, Terron Cooper Sorrells, Kayla Mahaffey, and Terence Byas, alias “Dredske,” this collection of artistry paints a vivid tapestry of Black identity and resilience.
Each artist in this ensemble offers a richly textured mosaic of perspectives.
As visitors traverse the gallery, they will be greeted by an unexpected and enchanting sight—a forest of 5,000 deflated camouflage balloons sprawled across the floor. These balloons, inviting and approachable to patrons of all ages, add a whimsical touch to the exhibition while carrying a coded message.
