DBDT: Encore! performs Tears of War by ChristopherL. Huggins, an award-winning, internationally renowned choreographer. The ballet mirrors the heartbreak of war during six periods of American history and is a soul-stirring work on the victims of war left behind at home. Barger’s Adagio for Strings adds the music of dramatically vibrating strings to the griefthe dancers are trying to shake during the piece.Huggins is a former member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and works across the U.S. and abroad as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer.
Choreographer and dance instructor Jess Hendricksbrought the dancers to the brink of physical exhaustion, pushing the boundaries of physicality in the dance Shedding Skin. The work will singe your emotions as the dancers move through the strenuous and athletic work. Hendricks is an award-winning choreographer who has taught and choreographed works abroad and is co-founder of Dancers Give Back Dallas.
Spiritual Suite is a collection of spiritual works choreographed in a collaborative effort by DBDT artists Nycole Ray, Richard A. Freeman, Jr., Floyd McLean, Jr., and Dianne Grigsby, former soloist with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and assistant artistic director of the Ailey Repertory Ensemble. The work was created for DBDT: Encore! and was first performed in June of 2022.
Special guest performers for the Fort Worth performance are DanceTCU from the TCU School for Classical & Contemporary Dance under the direction of Elizabeth Gillaspy. DanceTCU will perform Undercurrent, choreographed by DBDT’s Richard A. Freeman, Jr. and Katricia Eaglin, in October 2022. Undercurrent is an ensemble work inspired by the movement of water. Across three distinct sections of movement, this work traverses a broad and varied landscape of tranquility, introspection, power, and force.
