Celebrating UK Black History Month : Zadie Smith


Who can discuss Black Brits, or great contemporary writers with out mentioning Zadie Smith. One of the diaspora’s bright shining stars, Ms. Smith is the author of “White Teeth” , “On Beauty” , ” The Autograph Man” and scores of short stories ( if you don’t have even one her books, we forgive you….buy one here ). Born Sadie Smith to a Jamaican immigrant mother and a British Father, she later changed her name to Zadie after her parents divorce. She gained attention because a series of short stories of hers that were published while she was still in University. The rest they say, is history and we can now count her amongst the great black writers of the world.
