Musica: Antara Enseble Performs In December

On Tuesday, December 4 at 8:00 p.m., at Saint Peter’s Church at Citicorp, 619 Lexington Avenue and 54th Street, New York City, conductor/flutist Harold Jones will lead the Antara Ensemble in a program to include Carl Nielsen’s Little Suite in a Minor, Op. 1 for String Orchestra (Harold Jones, conductor); Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto in D Major for Flute and Orchestra, K. 314 (Harold Jones, flute soloist; William Foster McDaniel, guest conductor); Dmitri Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1, Op. 35, for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra (Irena Portenko, pianist; Harold Jones, conductor); and William Foster McDaniel’s Duke Ellington Medley for Piano and String Orchestra (William Foster McDaniel, pianist; Harold Jones conductor).The ANTARA Ensemble was formed by prominent flutist Harold Jones to bring quality classical musiic at affordable prices directly into the diverse neighborhoods of New York City. Their repertoire spans many centuries and includes works by American, African-American, European, and Third World composers, as well as spirituals in classical arrangements.
