Race and Opportunity in Hollywood


I stumbled across this video from the Hollywood Reporter this morning and thought it would interesting for you to watch. This is a round table discussion by directors of note such as the amazing Steve McQueen. And since he is the lone minority on the panel, he gets the “where are Black and Women in this discussion” question. He gives an honest answer ( I mean, really, how can anyone direct a film about New York or the boroughs and not have contact with people of color. That is completely unrealistic.) It is also notable that the other directors on the panel are completely silent. The silence is the real answer – their apathy is the main reason that so few ” Non White Men” can be even invited to the table. Here is the clip below:
