Pottery is such a beautiful art form. You have the chance to shape earth into a work of art. In The State of Tennessee, located in the Southern portion of the United States , potter Jim McDowell creates face jugs that tell ancestral stories and celebrate current day triumphs. Mr. McDowell started creating face jugs after learning about a great aunt who, while a slave in Jamaica, created face jugs to scare away evil spirits and to use as gravestones since slaves were not allowed to have grave markers.
