Delou Africa Honors Baba Chuck Davis at DanceAfrica Miami

Delou African Dance Ensemble presents DanceAfrica Miami 2017: the 8th annual African Diaspora Dance & Drum Festival. This unique festival showcases dance, music, fashion, intercultural workshops and performances. DanceAfrica Miami is a unique festival that highlights and showcases dance, music, fashion and culture of the African Diaspora. DanceAfrica Miami is the #1 cultural arts destination festival in the United States. The festival is fun, family friendly, multicultural, and educational. DanceAfrica Miami continues to “Bridge Cultural Gaps” by expanding the knowledge base of the community, invigorating cultural identity, and exploring the African Diaspora. The three day event will include include a Media Meet and Greet, African drum and dance classes for children and adults, yoga classes, fashion shows, a children’s village (back-to-school giveaway, storytelling, face painting, Zumba, health fair and screening), adult health fair, performances, film screening, market place, global bazaar and much more. DanceAfrica Miami will also honor and pay homage to the Founder of DanceAfrica, Mr. Charles “Baba Chuck” Davis (1937-2017) during the Dance Concert Extravaganza.

A special invitation is extended to the Press, Media, and the community on the opening night of DanceAfrica Miami, Friday, August 4th from 5p.m. – 7p.m. to meet the guest artist, master teachers, and performers.

Master teachers include Maria Basse-Wiles (Senegalese Dance), Djembe Sako (Mali), Youssoouf Koumbasa (Guinea Dance), Masa Traoare (Mali Drum), A’Keitha Carey (Bahamian Junkanoo Dance), Marisol Blanco (Afro-Cuban), Nancy St. Léger (Afro-Haitian Dance), Fode Bangourah (Guinea Drum), Seny Deffe (Guinea Drum and Dance), Seyba Diouf (Senegalese Talking Drum), Anita Macbeth (Yoga), Shelia Alexander (Shekere), Dijian Tie (Ivory Coast Dance), Ibhahima Dioubata (Balaphon), and Mamadouba Camara (Guinea Drum).

DanceAfrica Miami Concert Extravaganza will be hosted by Jill Tracey (Hot 105 – Hot Talk with Jill Tracey). Dr. Dorothy Bendross Mindingall (District 2 Board Member of Miami Dade County Public Schools) and Ms. Florene Litthcut Nichols (Executive Director, Inner City Children’s Touring Dance Company) will be honored for their exemplary support, commitment, and dedication to the community of South Florida. Delou African Dance Ensemble will celebrate its 30th Anniversary. The concert will also feature performances by Olujimi Dance Theatre, Sikan Afro-Cuban Dance Project, Venus Rising Women’s Drum & Dance Ensemble, Nancy St. Leger Danse Ensemble, African Watoto Dance Theatre, Miami Dade College Jubilation Dance Ensemble, and the West African Dance & Drum Collective. A Gala Reception and Fundraiser will follow the concert immediately in the Little Haiti Cultural Complex Gallery. Featured artist for the Gala Reception is D.J. Mecca Rose and Fun Generation Carnival Costumes.

DanceAfrica Miami is open to the public Friday through Sunday. Tickets for single drum and dance classes are $15 – $25. Tickets for the DanceAfrica Miami Dance Concert Extravaganza are $20 – $35.
