Brazzdance premieres Think Blue 2017

The Augusto Soledade Brazzdance company  performs March 24th and 25th at 7:30 pm at the Carnival Studio Theatre of the Adrienne Arsht Center. This performance will include several works from the company repertoire, former works and new world premiers, giving audience members a sample of ASBD’s diverse body of work. The program will include audience favorite “Diaries of an Outlaw”, and the Miami premiere of “Think Blue”, “ Some Things Revealed”, and “Turn the Page of This Book”.

Think Blue

“Think Blue 2017” is inspired by the book “Why The Sky Is Far Away- A Nigerian Tale”, retold by Mary-Joan Gerson. This repertory work, along with the book, touches on current issues in our relationship with our living environments and natural resources inviting all to reflect on our responsibility in keeping a balance between personal ambitions and sustainability. “Think Blue” was specifically created to be part of ASBD for “ABC’s – Promoting Literature Through Dance”, a company initiative to link children’s literature and contemporary dance.

Diaries of an Outlaw

This work is inspired by the life of the legendary outlaw Maria Bonita of Brazil. The work investigates life as outlaws; the intrinsic limits and pressures of motherhood and love in such an adverse environment. As much of Soledade’s repertory, the blend of dance styles found in Diaries of an Outlaw yields a work that is at once athletic and nuanced, both percussive and fluid, as it captures the rhythms of the outlaw life.
